Parallel processing problem with Fluent

Hi,

I am trying to run a parallel job in Fluent on a dual core machine.But i am getting the following messages:

999999: mpt_get_dot_address: warning: navier -> 127.0.0.2. Check your system network configuration!

Starting /home/kevin/Fluent/Fluent.Inc/fluent12.0.3/multiport/mpi/lnamd64/hp/bin/mpirun -np 2 /home/kevin/Fluent/Fluent.Inc/fluent12.0.3/lnamd64/3ddp_node/fluent_mpi.12.0.3 node -mpiw hp -pic shmem -mport 127.0.0.2:127.0.0.2:1537:0 127.0.0.2: Connection refused

mpirun: Warning one more more remote shell commands exited with non-zero status, which may indicate a remote access problem.

If i change my IP to 127.0.0.1 I can spawn the two processors but instead I get the following warning:

And when I load a a case and data file, without any UDF: Primitive Error at Node 0: open_udf_library: No such file or directory

Opening library "libudf"...localhost: Connection refused localhost: Connection refused localhost: Connection refused localhost: Connection refused

Because of this, FLUENT has updated their 12.0.3 beta. Please download the newest from the beta webpage to resolve this.

I have two quad-core processors on my workstation: total 8 cores and 4 GB RAM.

When I run FLUENT in parallel mode, what are the "number of processes" I should choose.

Check how many cores sees your operating system - normally on a modern system you will see 16 if you have 8 physical cores. I would say you should be able to use 16 for the number of processes.

Because you don't have a lot of RAM, 4 GB is not much for 8 processors, use some trial an error to see what is the best configuration for you. Take same case and do the calculations with 4/8/16 processes in order to see what works best for your machine.

You should have at least 2GB of RAM per physical processor ...
