Meshing a small section in GAMBIT
 

I am modeling a 8 degrees section of a system. I have a hard time getting a nice mesh, and it seems that I can only use the tri/hex mesh option. I end up having very skewed meshes in the volumes close to the axis and FLUENT ends up diverging after a few iterations. Anybody has ever had to model such a wedge with small angles

You should be aware of the basic principle of FVM. In sharp edges would be always finite high skewed grid cell and representation of results would be very spurious, even if you have very fine mesh. You could simply cut the sharp edge with a plane in sharp edge - plane distance which is acceptable for you. Then , you can get much better mesh, even hex meshing is possible.

No I have not. I was trying to think of how I could implement a plane close to the axis, but I am not sure what kind of boundary I should use.

For pie wedges, I redefine the node on the axis to force a triangle facet on the face mesh at that node.

Then I mesh the face with pave. Sometimes I put a sizing function at the node.
