Default Patch for stoker!!

Hi there:

Since in FLUENT, the air temperature should be really high, which is different with the reality, I used patch on my case.

I tried this on 2D chamber model first. There is only one fluid zone in my case, which is the space inside the chamber wall. I set the temperature of the zone as 1500K. But there is no combustion at all.

Did some use patch before? How can I make it work?

Thank you for your time!

My experience is that the patch works fine. Of course you can easily verify this by patching in some value and then looking to see that the patch has been applied.

From the forum, it seems that you have quite a few issues. Modeling coal and biomass combustion is relatively complicated and it is probably unreasonable to throw everything into a model and expect it to work. You should start off with something simpler, get it to work, and then add one more thing. In this way, you can build up to a more complex model.

I assume that you have already run through the coal combustion tutorial. How is your case different than the tutorial? Is the fuel going in? Is it volatilizing? What is the concentration of the volatiles species? Is there an oxidizing species? How do you have your reactions set-up? If you have a stoker grate, how are you defining the introduction of the fuel?

This should get you started. Good Luck.

Hi Allan:

Thank you so much for the help and suggestions!! Since I am the only student doing CFD of combustion here, it is so great to talk with people in this forum!!

I run through the tutorial: non-premixed combustion model, simulated a 3D stoker boiler with coal combustion and had some reasonable results. I defined the coal by exactly following the tutorial.

My present work is to inject biomass into the boiler from different nuzzles.

Now I found out how to define different fuels with the help from the forum. I guess I should define the fuel in the species panel as a mixture of both coal and biomass in certain ratio, right?

Thank you for your time!!
