GAMBIT - Creating and meshing face by sweeping

Dear all,

I am facing a problem in quad meshing the side wall of a cylinder. How I intended to create and mesh the side of the cylinder at the same time is as follows:

1. create a circular edge 2. at one of the points used to define the circular edge, create a straight edge down (perpendicular to the circle) 3. mesh both circular and straight edges 4. sweep the circular edge down along the straight edge

While the vertical lines of the mesh generated follows that of the meshed circular edged, the horizontal lines do not follow the edge mesh of the straight edge. Instead, larger intervals were automatically used.

Why is this happening? What can be done?

Best regards, Woo

Create first your volume. The mesh one of the disk (source face), then mesh the cylinder face. Make sur that this face is mapple. If your geometry is clean, Gambit should automatically recongnize this volume as Cooper

Thank you for responding. I am actually trying to mesh the face first before usign cooper. this is because we would like the height of the mesh to be getting progressively smaler towards teh bottom of the cylinder (grading on the height of the mesh oward the bottom). Any idea?

Best regards, Woo

you can't mesh a surface with cooper. Mesh it with quad-pave. For your growing mesh (volume), use Size Function
