how to solve rotor-stator interaction problem?

i want to solve rotor stator interaction in axial flow pump. can anybody tell me how i should first take initial guess in steady state and then apply unsteady state sliding mesh module in fluent? when interfacing in the fluent whether it is required to have physical contact between to interfaces? and how much pitchwise and axial misalignement between two interfacing faces is allowed.

you are allowed to generate any geometry, but the interfaces are usually defined when two entities exactly overlap. also it is required to have physical contact between two interfaces.

Thank you for your quick reply . It means rotor outlet face and stator inlet face must in contact or overlap in axial direction, and in pitchwise direction is that ?

in axial direction, there is no overlap between two faces, but in pitchwise direction, usually there is complete overlap between both faces.

Dear, There is a tutorial named 'Using Sliding Mesh' in Fluent sofeware package. In this tutorial, how to solve rotor-stator interface is exactly demonstrated.

Re: how to solve rotor-stator interaction problem?

Thank you doki and s.wang. Can you guide how can I get stator and rotor mesh files of fluent 6.2 sldiing mesh tutorial ? i tried to solve the problem by unsteady, implicit , sliding mesh method by doing interface between rotor and stator faces. I gave 1000 iterations per time step but solution didn't converge in the range of RMS value of 0.001 for time steps. Then i read few papers and found that my initial guess should be based on steady state solution. Which method should i try out MRF to sliding mesh or mixing plane to slding mesh? What about frozen rotor option in unsteady state anlysis? And also how can i insure that my interfacing is correct.

Hi Ashish, Could you please give me your email? I'd like to email the guide to you as reference. I think it is helpful to your situation. Regards, Wang

did i need to fix the pressure gauge at inlet and outlet? i´m asking that because i want to know what is the pressure raise and mass flow from a rpm imput.
