In GAMBIT meshing, Out of Memory! ?

When I try to mesh about 5 million mixed cells in GAMBIT 2.4.6, it always says "Error: doee not allocate *** types for dynamic memory, Error:Out of Memory".

My PC is 64-bit Window-XP with core 2 CPU @3. 00 GHz and 3.00GHz, 8 GB of Ram. I think it is strong.

What shall I do? How much it need for 5 million cells ?

just about 5,000,000 cells for turbulent computations

For 5 million cells the system should be supported with 5 GB of RAM. I think you have no hardware RAM issue unless the cells exceed 8 millions. My advice is to try to lower the number of cells to the level where the meh can be generated.

I was able to generate meshes... with 7.2 million cells on a Dell pentium 4 processor with 3 Gb of RAM. the problem should be something specific to gambit... inspect the geometry closely and also the type of volume meshing you are using to create a mesh.

RAM issues will arise when you are running computations in FLUENT with less memory for the number of cell you have. approximately 1 ~ 1.2 kb/cell of memory will be used for computations in FLUENT. It increases with increase in the number of equations to be solved.

Interesting, thanks for sharing the Dell experience.

but the computations are expected in high resolution, the grid should be finer as possible.

is the 32-bit GAMBIT a problem?

since there no 64-bit GAMBIT in markets, I have to install 32-bit GAMBIT in my 64-bit Windows system. So,

I am wondering if the 32-bit Gambit has to utilize only 3G of RAM.....

As you know, There is still no 64bit ver. Gambit. therefore the Gambit is using only 3GB memory. I recommend that you use the Tgrid. There is 64bit Tgrid. You are able to use the all memory. Good luck! Conan.
