Because you need a X Server. Install a X Server and Gambit will work excellent. A famous X Server for Windows is Exceed. ^_^

IF YOU ARE ALREADY INSTALLED GAMBIT FIND THE FILE WITH EXTENSION (DEFAULTID .LOC) AND DELETE IT. THEN RESTART GAMBIT AGAIN.

I have installed Exceed Power Suite 2008 (v.12) as X Server and Gambit 2.3 as a client and it work excellent. You can uninstall Gambit and reinstall it. If the problem continue try to install Exceed 12. You can download it via torrent from www.demonoid.com. Can you help me to find Fluent MHD-module?

Exceed is proprietary software that you must purchase (or get illegally). Depending on which version of Gambit you are using, you can try Cygwin/X or Xming as your X-Server.
