How to model many small holes in a large domain?

Dear All, I am modeling a large combustion compartment with many tiny holes as oxygen inlets. The holes are distributed evenly along the whole axial length of the compartment (hole diameter is only 5mm, but the compartment is about 15m long). It seems it is impossible to model each individual holes since the mesh number of the system will be huge. So could anyone give me a suggestion for that? Can we use the concept of point source in Fluent without model the real geometry? Thanks a lot!

I would recommend using porous domain (3D domain) or porous jump (2D internal surface). You can the specify the permeability and the losses across this compartment accordingly. Please check the user's guide the details on how to model this.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot! If I use porous domain, the gas purge from these holes will be continous along the length of combustion compartment, but the real case is these holes are separated, so does it matter the flow field of whole domain?

Thanks again.

Sorry, is your case the same one as previously described by Brian Woods?

According to the description, the holes are 5mm and distributed evenly across a 15m compartment. More or less, your flow will be evenly distributed as well, but the only difference is that there will be a pressure drop across, and also increase in velocity. The porous domain would be suitable to be used for this case.

Hope that helps.
