Vortex shedding and aeroelastic flutter question
Hi all,
I was wondering if vortex shedding alternating pressures ober bluff bodies is the cause of flutter, for example in plane wings or oder slim objects, or aeroelastic flutter has nothing to do with vortex shedding. I'm a bit consfused... By the way, is it possible to tackle the problem of aeroelastic flutter with Fluent, separately from NASTRAN or oder FEM codes? I mean, could the following (decoupled) approach of aeroelastic flutter be correct? 1. Simulate the unsteady flow over a wing. 2. Save every time step my pressure loads over the wing as a NASTRAN, ANSYS or whatever 3. Import these files into my structural FEM analysis software and saying to it that these are my fluctuating loads over the wing. 4. Calculate structure response to these fluctuating inputs imported from FLUENT and study if there is resonance, etc. The problem is that I want to make a flutter analysis over an object (to see if it will be flutter or not on this object), but I don't have neither computational resources nor experience in coupling Fluent with FEM structural software... Thanks in advance for your comments on this. Regards, Freeman |
Re: Vortex shedding and aeroelastic flutter questi
Hello! sure it is possible. Have a look at the publications on www.aero.polimi.it/~cavagna Hope this helps you a little. Regards Luca

Could you shed me some light about this? Roughly write some lines in order to do FSI de-coupled, as my wing is quite small and it is expected not to exhibit arge deformations? Thanks you in advance. Regards, Freeman |
