Exporting Residual Information

This might be a simple question, but is there anyway that I can write my residual information to an output file?

There is a text command: /plot/residuals-set> plot-to-file which may do what you want. As far as i remember it writes the stored residual data in a file.

If you want to output the residuals to a file WHILE the solution is running (ie at the end of each iteration,look at this post: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/flu...ge-fluent.html

I'm using Ansys 17.0 and /plot/residuals-set/plot-to-file doesn't work. It generates an empty file, even if I save cell residuals (/solve/set/exp... Save cell residuals for post-processing? [yes]). What am I missing??

I know about this method: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/flu...tml#post145582 but it adds a lot of output activity and slows down my simulations which are already time consuming.

Hi guys,

I also get an empty file if I use

/plot/residuals-set> plot-to-file

anyone know hows to fix this?

Hello!

Let me refer you to my post in the ANSYS student forum:

In short this is the solution that I came up with:

1. Complete simulation
2. Execute the TUI command /plot/residuals-set/plot-to-file "filename.txt" (will be empty initially)
3. Add one iteration, for example with the TUI command it 1 (if you have a transient case, this will not advance the time step
4. After the additional iteration, open the file specified before

When running on a cluster I always write whatever would be in the command window to an output file. This includes the residuals if you are printing them to the screen. I created a simple matlab file to parse that outfile for the residual information. If anyone is interested let me know. I currently have it specific for the 3D k-omega turbulence model, but a little manipulation should make it work for any type of run.
