Dear friends,

I'm studying macrosegregation in casting process of steel using FLUENT.

I have a problem with multicomponent solidification simulation. Firstly, it seems that equation (24.2-5) of user's manual is not correct. I think it should be 1/K instead of K. Secondly, it seems that FLUENT doesn't calculate solidus and liquidus temperatures by these equations at all! In a test, I used a solvent with just one solute with T_melt=1800, k=0.3 and m=-38, and the solidus temp. was about 1831! I retried using k=3 and m=-38 and the solidus temp. was about 1803. I really confused as I continued testing other possible values, as the calculated values are not in agree with the equations at all.

I will be thankful if you can help me solving this problem.

Check out Fluent 12 which has many new options (e.g. Scheil rule), as well as a different calculation of Tliq and Tsol

Thanks for your reply.

I'm using Fluent 6.3. I really don't want a separate way of calculating solidus and liquidus temp. I just want the fluent to calculate them as documented in user manual!
And about Fluent 12, I never heard about this version, and I couldn't find it in ANSYS site, too. Is it accessible?
