Wind Turbine + MRF (Multiple Reference Frame)
 
hi to all
I have a problem to implement the MRF, exaclty to bulid two volumes in Gambit.
i dont know the size of the volume(which is rotateded in MRF) around the wind turbine blade?
furthermore, in a computational domain, where is the volume ( moving reference frame zone) must be placed?is it near to the blade or far from the blade? How far?

sir i am student of M.tech at NIT surat. i am doing numerical simulation of wind turbine by fluent. so i am facing some problems with defining the boundary conditions. so wl u please help me regarding boundary conditions.sir i have modeled wind turbine in gambit and meshed it with two domain interior domain with .5d same as wind radius. and another one is off bigger domain of 4d in diameter. and 3d in front and 5d in back. i have defined the interface in between the surfaces of interior and outer domain. by giving the condition of rotor stationary and the near by domain air is rotating i am getting the axial velocity at the rotor plane more than inlet velocity. is this correct or not. and please help me out how to calculate the power output and coefficient of power.

I dont know..
Is the blade is fixed and the blade domain is MRF with r.pm speed o he rotor?
Is the whole domain Is fixed or MRF?

I'm really need help, for any one solve the problem

blades and the air near blades are MRF

I think you should have a distance of 10 times larger than your turbine diameter, and your boundary condition must be correct. what model of viscosity do you want to use? ideal gas or boussinesq??

I used
1- pressure based solver , relative velocity formulation, steady
2-k-epsilon model , standard
3-for bc i used inlet velocity with 10 m/s , intensity (10)and viscosity ratio (.1) ..... is it right ?
4-i make the wall of the blade rotational , relative to adjacent cell zone , with zero speed
5- i used MRF
6-air with contant density
6- i want to ask how if this bc is right and how can i calculate the output power and torque

hi dear monaya
i,m simulating a wind turbine using fluent and i,m using the same bc such as you.but my solution dont converge.and all velocity magnitude contours are 0.

what do you think i should do??
