inlet velocity BC

hi
i am modeling 2d fluidization for which i have to specify the inlet velocity . I know the volumetric flow rate of air and the cross-sectional area of the pipe at the inlet. plz guide me that for 2d problem how i calculate inlet velocity at inlet edge at which i have to specify inlet velocity BC.

how do you set the velocity BC if it is a 3d problem?

i will simply divide the known volumetric flow rate to the inlet area and will get inlet velocity at that face. but here, in 2D, problem is of defining inlet velocity at the edge.

hi john
thanks for reply. actually, during work in 2D, when i specify inlet velocity boundary condition, i specify hydraulic diameter (which is used for tublence specification) which is double of acual dia of pipe. now problemis that how i define the cross-sectional area at inlet. will it be based upon hydraulic diameter or actual diameter.
