Hi everybody,

i have designed two cubic bodies whose faces are separated by a distance of 0,32 mm, that conforms with the insulation.

The insulation consists of three different layers. Therefore I decided to use Shell Conduction.

I picked "Form new Part" in the Design Modeler to guarantee that the mesh between the two bodys is conform.

In the mesher I defined both faces as named selections and created a Coupled Wall in Fluent.

Despite that I'm not able to define a Shell Conduction between the two faces.

Does anybody know what's wrong or if there's a better option.

Thanks a lot

Greets

So you have a wall and shadow-wall type boundary? It needs to be a wall type. And you set the boundary condition to coupled in thermal? And then for some weird reason you are unable to use the shell conduction? Do you even see this button or is it greyed out? If it is greyed out, try using Fluent standalone and not via the workbench.

Is this a 2D model? It needs to be 3D. Are you using the density based solver instead of the pressure based solver?

Hi,

thank you for your reply.

As you mentioned it is a wall and shadow-wall type boundary and it is set to coupled in thermal. I did not enter the thickness of 0,32mm because there is no button for the Shell Conduction but only for a Thin Wall.

But in my CAD Model there is a gap between the two solids of 0,32mm to have the right dimensions. In the real model the gap is filled with the insulation.

I'm using a 3D model and the pressure-based solver.

You'll find a Screenshot of my model, the boundary zones and the thermal boundary conditions of interface-wall1-1-1 in the following link.

You can slightly see the gap between the two solids in the meshing model.

Thank you

Greetings
Mike

It seems that it is not possible to create a Shell Conduction between to walls that are divided by a gap.

I changed my model and closed the gap. Now I'm able to create the Shell Conduction.

Greetings Mike
