Meshing stirred tank with gambit.
 
Hi all,

I am a student and new to gambit and fluent.I am now working on the stirred tank with rushton impeller.In gambit,I have created 1 larger cylinder volume 1 and then the cylinder volume 2 as the rotating zone and impeller inside volume 2.I splitted volume 1 with volume 2 and substract the impeller from volume 2(I searched through the webs and read about people doing this way).So,is that the right way?

And come to the meshing part,I first meshed the volume 2 with tet tgrid with sizing function and copper mesh the volume 1.This gave me a lot of highly skewed mesh and inverted volume.And now I am stuck.
Can anyone provide me with some guidance to do this?

go to examine mesh, and set the lower value to 0.9
Update and you will see the skewed cells with quality over 0.9.
It is a good indicator to know the reason for skewed cells.

Hi

Most of the skewed cells are in the impeller region.I think I did the wrong method in meshing the region.I just don't know where to start meshing :confused: even after reading the few gambit tutorials my lecturer gave me.

you must start fixing skewed cells problem.
Check if you don't have small edges or small angles in this impeller region

Hi Mr Ming, I am a student and have to work on CFD simulations of Stirred Tank equiped with Rushton Turbine. I solved certain tutorials to start with.
Now, I want to make the geometry of the Tank and Rushton Turbine in Gambit and then mesh it.
Could you kindly suggest me how to make geometry of Rushton Turbine in Gambit and how to club Turbine geometry with Tank geometry.

At the moment,I am using the tank meshes that are given by my lecturer,so i have no exact detail on how to construct and mesh it.If you found it please share with me too!Thanks!

hi boh_tea. i have similar project to u.and i need mesh of rushton turbine that surrounding with a tank. i need rushton turbine that import to gambit and mesh it.can u give me this?

In gambit there are ways to visualize the mesh quality. You can visualize the exact problem area and you can try to fix it by controlling the mesh size.

Hi
I recently simulated a stirred tank with a pitched blade turbine. As you said generating a neat mesh for stirred tank is not an easy thing and it requires somehow diligency. I just can advice you that do a proper splitting and try to use a structured mesh inside rotating part. You can do it by dividing your geometry in a appropriate way. Another strategy is to use unstructured mesh and refine it by using adaption tool in fluent. It's very effective. You can find more details in this regard in fluent user guide. Even there's a tutorial regarding a bend pipe. You can use it to get some insight if you don't know how to work with adaption tool. Hope it help.
