Accelerate flow in one direction

Dear All,
I have a domain which is very long in one direction, maybe factor >> 1000 compared two the two other directions. The transport of information seems to be very slow from inlet to outlet.

Is there a logic an easy way of accelerating the solution in one direction, such that the solver used less "sweeps" in the short direction and more in the long direction.

Thanks in advance
Jan

Initialise or patch it realistically to start off (i.e. not zero everywhere) using the inlet zone.
Maybe run a 2d simulation instead?
Use high aspect ratio cells stretched in stream wise direction.

Thanks for the advice red Lemon. I have al ready done all that.
In the very old CFX it was posssible to control the number of sweps in each direction and by that a control of the time spend on calculating the flow in each direction. I think there is a similar option in Fluent, Cycle, but I don't understand it nor have experience
