Inlet profile independent of geometry orientation ?

Reading in an inlet profile, at a different location in x-y-z space, but on surface of same area as initial area from which the geometry was extracted. If I can match the inlet surface areas exactly, even if the overall orientation of the geometry in the x-y-z space is different, would the profile still be valid (ie the definitions of radial, tangential and axial velocities are relative to the 360 geometry as defined by periodicity and thus wouldn't be erroneous due to the orientation difference, provided the inlet area is identical ?).

Thank you !
