How to get the real particle number?

Hi,

If I read a DPM case with data, there is a line of text: Read xxxx particles. Is this the real particle number or the number of particle parcels?

If I click Display-particle tracks-current positions-write to file and set the particles are colored by particle ID, I can get the number of particles in parcel and the particle ID. Is this particle ID referring to real particles or particle parcels?

For one of my case, fluent shows Read 1453 particles, while there are only 97 particles by counting the particle ID. If I multiply the number of particles in parcel by 97, there are about 4k particles.

Any idea about this? Thanks in advance
