Heat Pipe is on a distinguished road
Hi all,
recently, I got project to do simulation for it this project was multi-phase flow heat pipe vapor in core and water in wick structure and the heat pipe consist of 3 sections ( evaporator, adiabatic and condenser ), evaporator adding heat and condenser reject the heat .
my question is how 2 set these with Fluent

Hi Dear;
I think you must study some published Papers such as Faghri's work and his colleagues i.e. M.B.shafii, Y.Zhang. Just as I memorized They modeled phase change within wicked heat pipe by a CFD approach. However, no accurate method has been still published for this simulation. The model wich they used , in my opinion, is a general approximation.

Hello Dear, yes All these papers as you maintained useful but I couldn't get the method to simulate, these papers explain the wicked heat pipe with physical way I need to transfer this to Fluent there r multiphase choice inside Fluent for instant VOF, mixture, and Eulerian

i remember a person said that must be model with cfx or sfx (sorry i forghat actualy name) your wright in fluent has big problem for model the boiling the droplet to fluid (water)to vapor
my frind i dont have any model file ,i have a paper and book about heat pipe
do you have any program in matlab or anuther softwer for select a heat pipe?
similar this http://www.supersonicengineer.com/

One way to model is to use UDFs and write correlations for boiling and condensation to predict the quality. Using that information (quality, Tsat,...), the adiabatic section can be reasonably modeled using VOF. It worked for me in COMSOL as the UDFs there can be written in MATLAB. I never worked with UDFs in Fluent.

yes dear now I reached to UDFs with fix.c but I need now more and more tutorials and manuals to achieve this by myself .... thanks

Energy is on a distinguished road
Hello to everyone.

I would want to know whether its possible to use the evaporation-condensation mass transfer equation to simulate the evaporation process of water to vapor and thus avoid writing a UDF for the same.

I've been simulating the flow but it seems its just natural mixing of water into air (temperature effects of boiling are not visible) even after setting the wall and flow temperatures above saturation. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, i am currently doing my undergrad and i get this topic (heat pipe) for my final year project...... Just wanna ask whether cfx or fluent is easier to use to model the boiling part of the working fluid in it. Any suggestion??

for the heating part, do i need to draw a heating medium to contact to the pipe?? or juz put the boundary condition of the heat pipe wall as heat flux in to serve as a heating source??

type of working fluid: water
type of HP material: copper
and there is very thin porous domain in the heat pipe to simplify things....

i'm running out of time, hope anyone in this forum can give some suggestion and guidance.... thanks in advance...

Hi
I really need to do this (modelling a heat pipe) as a part of my final project . I prefer to creat a model in Comsol. I would be grateful if you could help me.

Regards
Ali
