Default Sliding Mesh - moving body

Hello all, I wonder if anyone can help.

I'm starting out on a project looking at transient particle flows in a room, subject to a moving body. I have reasonable experience with FLUENT but have not touched upon sliding meshes.

As a very simple scenario I decided to start out with a simple cuboid and another sliding along the bottom of this domain. The bodies are separately meshed in a non-conforming manner. I then defined the underside of both cuboids as interfaces and set the solid (smaller) body velocity components so that it would slide along the bottom.

I ran this test scenario and monitored the mesh by making a solution animation, which confirmed that the mesh moved in the manner I desired. However, when I looked at the pressure contours along the centre-plane of the geometry, it was clear that the moving body had no impact on the flow at all, as if the smaller body were not there.

The corresponding error which shows up is:

Note: zone-surface: cannot create surface from sliding interface zone.
Creating empty surface.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcomed.

Cheers,

Rich.

Dear Richard,

It is more than a year ago since you posted this problem. However, I assume you still have the data files of the model you were talking about. For my gruduation project I am currently trying the same thing. My end goal is to simulate a moving train passing a passengers platform. Except, I'm not really experienced in Fluent and Gambit. So before I am going to set up a detailed model I want to make a simple model of a moving cube in the open air. Since I have very little experience with both programs I was wondering if you could send me your case and data files and if you also used Gambit, your mesh files? Consequently I can peek at your input values. (my email adress is: jochem_straathof@hotmail.com)

Thanks in advance.

Jochem,

I'm afraid I no longer possess any of the files associated with this problem. I actually never solved my problem by having a moving geometry sliding over another. I could only get results when I inserted a few layers of cells between the interface. While I did get this working satisfactorily, as I say, I no longer have any files associated with this work and have not worked in this area for some time. Sorry I cannot be of any further use.

Regards,

Richard.

Is that you solve the 'Note: zone-surface: cannot create surface from sliding interface zone.' problem by inserting a few layers of cells built from both sides of the interface??
