how do i define part of a mesh to be rotating and another part to be stationary in fluent?

Hey,

here is a picture with 2 zones.

If you want to make a rotating zone inside a stationnary zone (such as in the picture) then you better use a Moving Reference Frame instead of Dynamic Mesh.

Using dynamic mesh will make you create non conformal interface which are are hard to use.

the moving reference frame sounds like it may do the job better. how do i define this in the solver?

Hey,

you can define the moving reference frame in "Cell Zone Conditions" --> "The fluid you want to rotate" and then Motion Type : Moving reference frame.
If you have the tutorials, i remember there is a good about moving reference frame.
