Default Why doesn't coarsening occur during grid adapting?

Hi all,

I am running a complicated geometry with turbulence and trying to adapt my grid so that wall Y+ will fall into an acceptable range. To do this, I am using the Adapt menu feature to adapt by Wall Y+.

When I click Mark, the feature shows me that 0 cells need refinement and that a lot of cells need coarsening. When I click Adapt, however, nothing happens-- the same grid wrong grid is given as the output (0 change in cells, faces, etc).

I am working in a 3D geometry with tetrahedral cells (T Grid). I think that Fluent will only let me refine and not coarsen-- why is this?

Thanks in advance, AS

Hi, I think that coarsening only ocurrs with conformal adaption. Make sure that you have enabled that option in "Controls" menu. And also, I think that if the node/s you want to coarse is on a boundary Fluent won´t adapt it.

Hope this help!

Hi all,

It is true that refined mesh on boundary can not coarsen?

Thanks,
John
