Solar still

hiii..i want to do CFD on solar still..can u help me from where to start..m new to fluent..

chaos July 29, 2011 04:08

hi!

first of all what exactly do you want to simulate?

if you're really new to fluent you should first start with the tutorials of fluent.
especially eulerian multiphase model, and solidification.

i've never used fluent for condensation but those tutorials should help you.

good luck!

ohkkk...thnkx..i want to stimulate the losses in solar still...

chaos July 29, 2011 05:18

we are talking about this right?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_still

what losses exactly? water drops which fall too early to the ground and not into the cup?

vaibhavraikhare July 29, 2011 05:20

yeah..m talkin abt this only..energy loss...v get only 28-30% efficiency in normal solar still..so i hav to calculate the losses..

chaos July 29, 2011 05:32

ah ok! now i understand!
in this case it would be the best, to simulate only the radiation.
that should be easy.
estimate the energyabsorption of the condensation of the water at first.
define which material the foil should be. (reflection, absorption and so on)
define the radiation of the sun.
you'll also have to estimate the absorption of the cup and the other material's of corse.

ohkk..i had made geometry of solar still in gambit..but couldn't able to find how to apply all these conditions u told..in gambit or in fluent???

chaos July 29, 2011 06:52

well i've never used gambit... ->crap post processor
i always use ANSA.

those conditions are all to setup in fluent. like material properties, boundary conditions, and so on.

you really should make some tutorials for fluent.... you can find them in the manual of fluent ;)

vaibhavraikhare July 29, 2011 06:56

okk...i was searching all this in gambit...:D thnkx a lot.. :)

chaos July 29, 2011 07:09

you're welcome;)

doubts for solar still geometry

sir,
i am creating geometry of solar still mechanism, could you please provide reference geometry with boundary conditions.
