hi,

I have designed my 3D grid in AutoCAD (digitised the geometry) and when i imported it to Gambit environment,i have 1000s of edges and faces which i want to reduce and from the wireframe (which i digitized) i cannot define my extruded AutoCAD as a volume...

Kindly advice

Regards

do you have the possibility to get step file?
or parasolid?

ok I have your geometry in front of me.
What do you want to compute?
I have some thin wall structure inside a cylinder

you mean without z-extrusion?

If I delete the z-extrusion, it only remains the source edges.
What do you want to compute finally?

i want the mesh to be a 2D model in GAMBIT so that i can sweep it along any vector....thats it...

ok
Import your .sat into gambit
Move all your surfaces with specific vector for having your cylinder centered with your axis.
Then delete all surfaces from cylinder.
It remains only surfaces from your internal structure
Now, in delete-surface panel disable lower geometry and delete all the surfaces.
Delete all edges except the source faces from one cap (see picture)
Create one disk with your dimensions.
And now you need to split your surface with your edges.
I don't know why but you cannot select all the edges to generate your split.
So take some coffee, and pick edges one by one (you can split x-times if you want)
Once it is done, you just have to sweep your surface with your vector.
And finally go and mesh

Wait I tried to sweep surface with some zig-zag splits, but it merge the zig-zag.
So on ce you create your disk, save your dbs.
Then merge your edges. I tried and you cannot merge all the edges on the fly, so you need to merge some series.
Once it is done sweep edge with vector (you will have your zig-zag surfaces, like your import)
Then sweep your disk, and split this volume with your zig-zag surfaces.
