VOF free surface vortex simulation

hi all friends,
I want to simulate free surface vortex due to a suction pipe in a sump.
well I think that I should use VOF modeling in Fluent but I don't know how to define the air above the free surface of the water and so the level of water. should I use seperate zones for each phase or there is a way in VOF modeling to define the level of water and the air above it?
I will be happy if you guide me!

thanks a lot

Hi - you need to patch in the water zone after initializing with air. You mark the volume you want filled with water at the beginning of the simulation by going to "Adapt" - "Region" - choose the volume, then "Mark", then go back to the initialization screen to patch that area as water.
