Does anyone know how to simulate oil coating on the pipe wall in fluent?

Hi
I want to simulate oil&water flow in horizontal pipe. During the experiments, the obvious oil coating on the wall can be observed, which will affect the pressure gradient. In order to validate simulation results, I have to consider such oil coating effect in my model. Does anyone know how to implement this effect into CFD model? regards Brian |

I'm a beginner to cfd but could you set the shear stress to a value under wall conditions?

currently, I assume the wall is no-slip. The flow regime simulated is oil core with water surroundings. but in some cases oil phase always tend to stick on the wall, namely, oil fouling.

I would put it as two boundary layers with different viscositys tau(shear)= mu du/dy so if u assume a simple linear profile for the oil and water and then let it develop. Not sure how right that is but that is how i would approach it

Yes, I agree with u. Actually, the water and oil are feeding into the pipe through T-shape and then developing. I also initialized three layer, which are oil film, water surrounding, and oil core. But when the oil core is stabilzed, oil film near the wall disappeared which means oil film cannot stick on the wall.

could you simulate no slip at the oil/wall interface - i doubt it would affect your results too much as long the shear transmitted at the oil/water interface is accurate.
