Which cheap/good software for geometry creation?

I'm looking for a new piece of software for geometry creation because DM is too frustrating to use over an internet connection (we use remote desktop). I'd like to install a program on my PC so that restricts the software range a little: it has to be cheap(ish) and available under a student license.

What can you recommend? Autocad, Solidworks, etc?

I recommend you to use SolidWorks regardless of price.
In fact there are many features must be compared in order to make a good decision.

What's bothering me a bit is whether Solidworks could create the 3D fluid domain directly or would I have to create the structure and then extract it in DM?

In my opinion the best powerful feature of SolidWorks is the flexibility and ease to edit the 2D sketch, by changing only the dimensions which is not the case in AutoCad (as I think - maybe later AutoCad versions have this feature)
2D Sketch is the base for 3D drawing in both SolidWorks and Autocad and all CAD Softwares...

This FreeCAD sofware looks a lot like Solidworks.

Has anyone had good experiences here?

Now I'm mainly left looking for a versatile mesher for hex and tet, structured and unstructured.

Salomé MECA come to mind, but haven't tried it. Good?
