I would like to know when the species transport model should be used and when the pre-mixed or non pre-mixed combustion models should be used.?

I have read the manual but it just confuses me more.

My doubt is can we simulate combustion by using just the species transport model with reactions enable?

And when do we have to use the other combustion models.

Reply will be greatly appreaciated..Please urgent help needed

I too am not quite sure of this. But from what I get, species transport, is used when very simple reactions are used. There are no predefined reactions and no ratios or anything. Its more like a simpler, general case.

Premixed combustion is used when there fuel-air mixture is flowing into the area of combustion. The mixture fractions will be fully uniform all over.( which means you can't use injections etc.

Non-premixed is just the opposite of premixed model. You and give any mode of air fuel mixture. ( it can be premixed or non-premixed).

The premixed combustion is derived from non-premixed combustion. So using non-premixed, you can model premixed but not vice versa.
antara, tianjunjie and APHardy like this.

it would also be of great help if you can tell me which class of combustion does shock initiated combustion come under?

can it be modelled using species transport or does pre-mixed or non-premixed modelling need to be used?

I think you can go with premixed combustion.

I am a little confused about choosing the combustion type for my study. In my case, the fuel entered from the pipe. as a consequence of the inlet gas pressure the particle of the dust disperse in the tube. And after a certain time, the spark ignition ignite and the burning will occur. I will appreciate if you tell me which type of combustion should i take into account? Species transport or premixed?

HI,
I am a newer in premixed combustion. When I use the FLUENT to modeling, I am confusing about the premixed combustion using Zimout model in FLUENT. I can't find where can I specify the mixture(methane-air) equivalence ratio or about the mixture materials.
Anyone knows how to solve it ? Please help me. Thanks in advance! This question is confusing me several days!
Best regards!
