Hardware for OpenFOAM Cluster

Hi guys!

I here have a Cluster with about 40 Nodes, more then the half of the nodes are Core 2 Duos, there are ~ 10 nodes with i7, for OpenFOAM CFD.

For space, administration, temperature and energy reasons, we are planning to get some new hardware.
Budget is approx. 16.000 $
I have no idea what will work best, I first thought 2 Machines with 2x 16Core Opteron would work best, but then i read, that Xeons (even with less cores) will compute faster.

What's about a Dell PowerEdge R810 Server? It has 4 CPU Sockets, for example 4x E7-4870 ?
Which Setup would work best for OpenFOAM - Where are the Bottlenecks? Where do i have to look at regarding CPU and RAM?
