Hello,

Building a workstation, I'm wondering whether I should go for higher frequency memory or lower latency memory. I mean, most often, these are in contradiction.

Example: Which is faster?

• 1600 Mhz CL9-9-9-24
• 2133 Mhz CL11-11-11-27 (XMP)

Are there ways to estimate the speed ratio based on frequency and CL?


Lastly, I read somewhere that one shouldn't choose Corsair Vengeance memories. Any justified reason for it?

The 2133 has higher speed and should also have lower latency since those 11 clock cycles are at 2133 MHz.
2133 is definately faster and has more bandwidth.

CPUpassmark.com has a lot of RAM benchmarks to check out.

I did not remember these figures are clock cycles (was thinking about actual time)...

Well...
11/9 = 1.222..
2133/1600 = 1.333..
So, theoretically, 2133's latency should be ~10% lower than that of 1600.
