6 Cores i7-980x

Hello,

I read about a benchmark for the latest Intel processor - i7 980x (with 6 cores).

Seems interesting considering it has a CFD benchmark.

Sounds perfect. There's even no price on that website about this latest product. But it will cost a lot, I guess.

Dell Germany is already offering a Gaming workstation with i7 980x.

I came up with a configuration costing approx 5000 Euros - with many features like 2 TB HDD-RAID 0, 12 GB 1333Mhz RAM

Looks great, the price of 980X seems about $1000~1100, and can still work on the same motherboard that 920 was using~

The i7-980X Cost $999.99 USD on Newegg. I'm having some trouble setting up my RAID as I would like it, and I haven't had much time to put into it since I bought the parts for the computer, but I'm excited to get to it in a few weeks.

The fan that comes with the CPU is rather loud, but it will be nice to have a computer with that much power.

Why not go for a Xeon 5600 series?

To get the same speed, I would have had to get the X5680 which is $700 more than what I paid. I decided to go with desktop parts rather than server to keep the price down. It's a personal computer and CFD will only be part of its purpose if I can't get room on other modeling clusters. And finishing up my masters, I could only budget so much.

After I put it all together, I found the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T which was about $300 for 6 cores at 3.2 GHz, but I had just decided to stick with Intel.
