Ansys fluent in multi core cpu´s

Hi all!,

I´m working with ANSYS FLUENT with an i7 with Windows 7, but I have realised that FLUENT only use one core (13% of CPU). How could I make Fluent use all cores?

Thanks ;)

i have to ask. have you set up the simulation to be solved in parallel?

look at the attached image

antonio_8126 November 18, 2010 14:12

Yes, I have done it, but when I select parallel (4 processes) fluent shows a warning message and i though parallel was only for more than one PC´s working in parallel.

In this case, why is the message warning?

can you specify what the message says? in my setup i don't get any and i can select where to run the parallel solution, in my local machine or else.

take a look at the screenshots i have attached.

Do you know if you have the parallel licenses to access additional cores? You will need HPC licenses to do this.

antonio_8126 November 20, 2010 06:37

The error says:

Warning: No cached password or password provided. Use pass or cache to provide password

Need I an special license?

Thanks all ;)

It might be a licence issue, but try this, it worked for me on an i7/xeon 64-bit Win 7:

Open command prompt (cmd.exe) - Type CMD in start menu search bar.
In Command Prompt, type: cd (fluent folder path)
e.g.: cd C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v121\fluent\ntbin\win64
Press Enter
It should now say: C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v121\fluent\ntbin\win64>
Type: fluent (dimension)(double precision if wanted) (-t(number of parallel cores to be used))
e.g.: fluent 3ddp -t3
Press Enter
This will make fluent run in 3d mode, with Double Precision, using 3 cores (advised on a 4-core machine so you can still use it for basic tasks during solve.)

See if that works :)

Mpi

(Assuming you have the parallel licenses)

Did you install the HPMPI software?

Parallel Fluent

I have 32 GB ram, Intel Xeon processor X5660, 2.80 GHz, 12 MB cache, 1333 MHz memory, Six-Core (two processors) and win7 . But I couldn't run fluent in parallel (local Machine). Please help me how to run it?

Hi all,

I have installed Fluent 12 on Windows 7 pro (64 bit).

The machine has following specs:

Intel® Core i7 950 Processor (3,06Ghz - 8 MB)
12 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (3 x 4 GB)

I have tried to open a parallel version of fluent (local Machine). When I want to start fluent I got following error:

-------------------------------------------------

Loading "\VMEERTENS-PC\C$\PROGRA~1\ANSYSI~1\v120\fluent\fluent12.0.16\ lib\fl114-64.dmp"

Done.
Error: There is no active application.
Error Object: (grid-valid?)

-------------------------------------------------

I tried the other settings under “parallel settings” but I still got the same error message.

I didn’t install any MPI software because I thought it is already integrated in W7.

But after reading some threads I’m not so sure anymore…

Maybe this has something to do with the Fluent prerequisites I installed the first time? If I remember it well, Fluent installed the C++ 2005 version and asked for a change in the control panel for a SP.

If anyone has an idea for successful parallel settings, please let me know.

This could also just be a licensing/MPI problem, but I’m new in it.

Sincerely

Vincent

How can i use the the tow PC's parallement to use 16 Cores ?.
Do i need any addition license ?
Please help me ....... Many thank's

Only start Fluent with Win command prompt and enter your correct password !

I haven't been fixing ansys for running with 12 cores,
Have you fixed this problems for 16 cores ? Please share how to fix...
Many thanks !

your license is not right ,you must get a good license:)

Sarawut November 28, 2013 19:18

When start Fluent setup, there are menu to put in the number of cores which you would like to run, however if you setting 4 cores one of them will run about 13%. I think it might because this core is use as the server core to manage other cores.

Sarawut November 28, 2013 19:21

Yes, I'm able to run academic license only 8 core on 16 cores machine. For additional cores, you have to pay for that.

Where from? All right, I found where, but doesn't help. WHen opening parallel, ansys just stops there with a message "host spawning node 0 on machine xxx"

smilensmile April 7, 2014 07:31

use this.

use this

to solve this when opening setup, choose parallel setting, and change the default one to pcmpi and it should works.

Hi every one
I have a problem with run ANSYS FLUENT in WORKBENCH software parallel mode.
when i made Geometry and mesh in Gambit and export into Fluent, it has no problem during run with parallel mode, but,Now i have installed WORKBENCH software V16.1, after craete a mesh in it and run ANSYS FLUENT in parallel mode, after initialization and starting to run, i faced with a FATAL ERROR about finalized processing for cores.

it's my pleasure if somebody could help me
thanks

divergence July 1, 2016 06:53

If you already have a mesh (created with Gambit) why would need a new one created with Meshing?

Have you tried reading the mesh in serial mode? Do you get the same error message as with parallel mode? Are you running Fluent within Workbench or as a plain program?

If you can read the mesh in serial mode, maybe you could save the case and read it once again in parallel mode. This is admittably quite a long shot. Most likely there is something amiss in the Meshing file. You could also try to post the error message here.

Hey Hai

what ever you have said is applicable for running it in paralle with in the host, but How do you run a single job in prallel on different Cpus
