Hi, dear all,

Recently try to play around with Fluid structure interaction and has debate.
Normally in the fluid dynamics, we can have inlet velocity profile and pressure set as zero. this is typical way to fix pressure.

In the fluid structure interaction,we have a solid mechanics side. Does that means we do not need to have a pressure boundary condition?

can we set both inlet and outlet as velocity profile?

Hi, dear all,

I found out some strange phenomenon, everytime when i mention FSI, then no one is going to answer me, either senior application engineer or professor, and internet only provide surface information.

is it really that difficult and horrible?

Your questions make no sense. CFD solver solves for the pressure and applies it to the structure which then deforms(calculated by the structural solver) the solid, and so on...now why would you apply it yourself, purpose of FSI is to get the pressure and apply it on the solid in a coupled manner, initial conditions are needed, i.e. the results from CFD analysis are your boundary conditions on the solid.

I honestly dont understand how you can start with coupled CFD/CSM (FSI) analysis without basic knowledge about the individual analysis.

Hi, örjan,

Your reply take me few days to think. I am asking because recently some researchers applied pressure on the solid side to have initial stress, and then use boundary condition inlet and outlet both side set as velocity.

In other words, they give initial condition on the solid side. I am wondering, any problem with it or not?

One more Q, regarding the initial condition, it can be either come from solid or fluid, am i right?
