Hi,

I'm thinking of doing some simulations of hovering flight. in the past, i've been doing simulations of flapping flight. i simply set u=1,v=0 as the initial condition for the entire domain. the boundary condition is u=1 at the left boundary, indicating inflow. outflow at the right uses convective boundary condition. du/dy=0 for the top/bottom boundary.

however, how should the boundary and initial conditions since it's hovering. hence, u/=1.

pls help. tks!

Hi,

As the name suggests -- hovering flight -- there is no forward motion, you can use initial conditions u = v = 0 everywhere. Its just the same flapping motion of the wing in still fluid. As for the boundary conditions, use u = 0 for inlet and the same outlet B.C you have mentioned.

hi quarkz
you metioned use convective outlet B.C for hovering flight.
is that correct?

thanks

I currently used symmetry BC, although I believe convective outlet should work fine too.

i use openfoam. i believe in outlet use fixed value=0 for p and inletoutlet for U which combination of fixed value & fixed gradient for reverse flow in outlet.

other B.C you used seem correct except outlet.
why you use symmetry BC for outlet?
