Recommendation of CFD package for simulating shock

Hi,

I will be working with shock tubes and want to compare my experimental results with CFD. For this a have to decide between three packages Star-CD, Fluent and CFX.

I need to know which one is better capturing the shocks.

Also the schemes available for compressible flow? What order accurate are they? I need at least a second order accurate scheme to capture the shocks.

Also, the stability that each package gives for this kind of simulations.

If anyone can give me pro's and con's for this kind of simulation, i would be really grateful.

regards, Nalleli

Hi Nalleli,

A suggestion, if I may. Set up an example problem & ask all 3 suppliers to let you test their software - I would imagine for academic purposes.

Perhaps also ask them to predict how well your example problem would fair, & to perhaps help you set up a rough model. Often, these software houses have a worked example reasonably similar to your test case. Certainly enough for you to get a 'feel' which way to go.

I hope that helps.
