Dear Forumer,

I understand that the checker-boarding issue is really annoying, but luckily some artificial ways have been introduced to resolve this problem.

Can we automatically detect the checker-boarding issue during the simulation? What I mean is if there is any criteria for us to determine this oscillating cell. Then we can apply the artificial way to that specific cell in order to resolve the checker-boarding. I guess this question is quite similar to shock detection problem, hopefully there is a similar way to detect the checker-boarding.

Thank you in advance,
Kan

Actually, this problem is just determined by the discretization without any need of running a simulation. That is produced by larger stancil of the pressure equation that decouples different grids.
During a simulation, you would see the velocity field having oscillations on a wavelenght of the decoupled cells

Thank you for your reply, can we define a scalar as an indicator for the checker-boarding?

what do you mean? I think no scalar can be deduced from the solution to check that
