Heating without heat
 

This was something I noticed at my home.I live in a two storey apartment.I live on the 1 first floor.There is an apartment in basement and one above me.I have been seeing that for the past few weeks even when my heater is not turned on my home gets heated like a furnace.The heater system is electric, attached to the wall in lower left corner.Can the heat diffusion cause such a huge heating effect.

I don't see how this is related to CFD, but to answer your question: It can, if your neighbours insanely heat their flats.

of course this is a relevant cfd question. heat diffusion is a large subject, although the transfer rates required to heat your flat substantially may suggest the existence of turbulent heat transfer.

What about extra heat sources? TV's, fridges, PC's. Is it very sunny where you are at the moment? It could be some sort of greenhouse effect. Or maybe the lagging on you hot water tank is letting all the heat out.

It is well know that people who have someone living below them and I guess also above them, will get good from their neighbours ..... and this is a relevant question. Delete ztdep's message is my suggestion ... although I would not recommend delting any questions!

I do enjoy the low utility bills.To expand on the information we do have only a fridge giving out heat and occasionally the blower in the restroom.The apartment is made of wood.Regarding the temperature it is around 0 C. About the possibility of green house effect can the presence of around 4 sets of glass window cause such a tremendous green house effect.I do not think there can be turbulent heat transfer.

heat is conducted through the walls from the source (your neighbours apatments) to the sink (your apartment) unless your water heater is losing too much heat but you should have noticed that on your electricity bill (assuming it is heated by electricity). Open the windows if the excess heat affects you, Good observations have to be followed by correct analysis. Keep observing, science has benefitted from people like you. I do not agree with the opinion of deleting this posting, other postings deserve this fate but not this one

Well, since I live in a very hot country (Brazil), I don't know nothing about heating systems, but I could think something about what could be happening:

You're at the middle of two apartments...

Assuming that the heat flux tends to go up you could be heated by the basement's apartment and being insulated, in some sense, by the above's apartment. Furthermore, assuming your building as a system well isolated, all apartments would tend to have the same temperature after an enough time.

If it makes any sense, your apartment shouldn't be heated when the heating system of the basement's apartment is turned off.
