how to make 2-D simplification of a 3-D Geometry

Dear Friends

I am trying to simulate a vertical tube immersed in the centre of a fluidized bed. Because the tube is vertical, i have to simulate the full 3-D geometry unlike horizontal tubes which can be easily simplified into a 2-D setup. I wish to know, if a vertical immersed tube can be simplified into a 2-D setup. One idea that comes to my mind is that it will become a compartmental fluidized bed with the tube dividing the bed into 2 halves. but that does not appeal to me very much. Your ideas will be highly appreciated.

regards

rahel
