Default problem in deleting a foder

hi everyone
i want to delete folder of openfoam-1.6-ext, but i can not do this
because the permission tab of properties of this folder shows that, the owner of this folder
is root and i have do not permission to delete it.
how can i change the owner of this folder from root to myself and delete this folder?
please help & thanks a lot

I found the answer accidentally.
we should use the below command:
chown -hR [new owner name] [name or path of the folder]
like :
chown -hR amir /home/amir/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.6-ext
****pay attention that you must type above command in root user at terminal,
