aerofoil profile

I want to import the certain coordinate points of NACA0012 aerofoils. I don't know what is meant by group number and id number given before the corrdinates. i tried to do this by txt file as well as dat file. i used the following points. please suggest me if any. I am using Ansys14 (Design Modeler)

If you have any geometry tool like UG or ICEM ?

Rachit March 5, 2013 08:48

I think you need to add another column of z coordinates. If you want to plot your 3D curve on the XY plane, then put all 0s in this coulumn. The first column represents the group number, they will all be interpolated by one spline. The second column represents the ID number within the group. So your input file can be something like:

1 1 ......
1 2 ......
1 3 ......
1 4 ......
2 1 ......
2 2 ......
2 3 ......

Also, if you want a sharp trailing edge, add 1 0 in the end. This will close your spline to give a sharp trailing edge.

Rachit

If I were you, I would erase the first 2 columns and I would try again.

thank you all for your reply!!!

dear ...

you can import Vortex with .txt into icem or gambit or ansys.
if your problem is 2D, put for all points Z=0.
you can do this at Excel then save as .txt and then import to your software.
