How to create animation of a transient analysis using paraview?

Ok, I suspected that your question would go a bit further...

ParaView has support to a bunch of file formats (take a look in ParaView's Wiki page for a complete list) you only need to choose one of them to use in your work. I particularly like to use the Ensight's format which is very powerful and easy to learn and use (it's my opinion). I left some routines and further PV stuffs available to download in http://www.nacad.ufrj.br/~rnelias/paraview/. At this link you'll also find the Ensight's format description.

it's great. thank you very much. By the way, do you have some experiences on vtk data on transient analysis? Now I have a code writing vtk data for paraview. it is the best way that I can make a little change based on the original code handling unstructured grid.

Just write a vtk file for each time step. In paraview, you load just the first of them (file1.vtk) and them go to the TimeSeries button which is in Parameters tab and add the other files (file2.vtk, file3.vtk, etc).

Thanks, Marcio. Yes, I can load series of files according to your hint. When I try to play animation using relevant button in keyframe animation, but failed. So problem again! Would you tell me how to play the animation? Can I export a movie in the format of avi or rm file? For me, there is no any help file available. This kind of matters really seems not easy.

Unfortunately, it's not so intuitive. ParaView has a file format where you can list series of data sets as a transient data (the PVD format). You can find information regarding this file format on the ParaView Users Guide. I'm not sure if it's described on the VTK file format's document (available in: http://www.vtk.org/pdf/file-formats.pdf) but you can also learn how to use it by examining the example data set available at the ParaView installation directory (C:\Program Files\ParaView 2.4\share\paraview-2.4\Data\chombo3d.pvd)

NOTE: I guess you started to understand why I'm not for VTK file formats. They (VTK & PV teams) have a wonderful visualization tool, but the file formats, while flexible and extensible through its XML format, are hard to learn, understand and use...

Márcio, eu acho que você trabalha com um agrande amigo meu, o Anderson (se nao for o Marcio que estou pensando, fica valendo a mensagem da mesma forma...). Um dia desses eu fiquei quebrando a cabeça com ele no MSN para entender como o ParaView trabalhava com dados em transiente. Dai eu meu lembrei de uma ocasiao em que eu havia perguntado sobre esse assunto no forum de discussao do ParaView. Na ocasião eu informado, por alguem do forum, que a unica forma de carregar arquivos transientes no ParaView seria atraves do uso dos arquivos PVD. Se você tiver oportunidade, converse com o Anderson que ele ira te confirmar as conclusoes que tiramos.

Hi, Renato. You're right, I'm working with Anderson, and he talked to me about the file formats. I just suggested the vtk file format because Harry has it implemented already. I had forgotten about the PVD step in this approach, and we're considering moving to ensight file format here, too.
