preconditioner of a matrix

Dear colleagues: Any good reference that you can share with me regarding the way to construct the preconditioner of a coefficient matrix..?

well, can you tell us what kind of matrix you are talking about?

Re: preconditioner of a matrix

a sparse matrix, typically arisen from the assembly of coefficient terms of the Pressure correction equation/others in incompressible CFD calculation.. I am trying to solve the entire matrix using the Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient Method.. However, I have no idea to construct the preconditioner.. Can you guys help me on this??

Thank you.

Re: preconditioner of a matrix

One reference for preconditioners is the book "Templates for the Solution of Linear Systems: Building Blocks for Iterative Methods" from SIAM. It is inexpensive ($18/$14.14 SIAM members) and would be a useful addition to any library. Ordering information at http://www.netlib.org/templates. The text is available for free at http://www.netlib.org/templates/Templates.html.

There is a chapter on preconditioners. The book gives many algorithms (templates) from which you can code solvers and a few preconditioners in any language you want.
