FV-FE hybrid schemes

Hello,
I have a very quick question. What are the assets of using hybrid FV-FE methods. It seems to me it is for gaining accuracy on unstructured meshes. Am I wrong? Thanks a lot in advance. jojo |

both method can be used on unstructured meshes. both methods allow the use of high order methods but the FV is well suited (very accurate) for structured ones. FE (galerkin methods) is a more general discretization tecnique and its accuracy is nearly indipendent by the mesh so is very useful for complicated geometries but is very time-consuming.

FV-FE schemes are good for convection-diffusion equations. They combine the technology of upwind schemes for convection terms with galerkin discretization for diffusive terms, exploiting the advantages of both. For greater details see
