Do you get paid? If so, do it. PHD is fun time!!!
In my company we have one guy with a PHD in CFD, he is a research / development engineer now, creating flow measuring devices. But we have lot of PHD engineers / physicists that do more or less something completely different to their thesis.

Do you have a Ph.D.? Because my experience was nothing like fun! Quite rewarding sometimes, with conference trips, publications for the CV, etc. but "fun" is an exaggeration. It is certainly not student time!
I would do it again though, mostly because of the changes in the way you work and think. Also for the networking sometimes. And it is 100% necessary if you go for an academic career (I don't know about the industry). The extra money in future salary and the publications are also good. But people in this forum are probably biased towards a Ph.D. I think there are similar threads in the forum, use the search function. And good luck, whatever you decide :-) |

Hi, in my experience, holding a PhD. is generally not as appreciated in the private sector in Spain as it is in other European countries, particularly given the current situation.
I'd say that if you really like CFD then you should go for it. If, after you finishing it, you discover that you cannot find a job in Spain you can always go abroad. Cheers, Michujo. |

Yes, I agree that this depends on your colleagues and professor.

That sounds like you didn't have a good PhD experience. It can be quite fun, and it can be lot lot better than student time....but that depends on the things like country you are in, professor you work with, Postdocs, group size etc. I'd do it again any time!

With such things as money, or free trips around the world to conferences...

To add something more substantial: with a doctorate in engineering (especially with a focus on simulation science), you shouldnt have any trouble finding a well-paid and challenging job in the engineering and inovation power houses.... if a country looks down on its best engineers and scientists, it will surely go down (or will be bailed out by foreign money )
