Default CFD CODES FOR MARINE APPLICATIONS

Dear Friends,

We have plans to purchase a few licenses of one CFD coed, before that I have been analysing briefly the three main CFD codes for marine related problems (STAR-CD, FLUENT & CFX). I would like to read the experience and thoughts from people using these codes for solving problems of water around ship's hulls, wave generation, propelllers, etc.. I think Star-CD has the biggest experience from Comet and a good team for supporting and validation.

Best Regards and thanks in advance,

COMET is pretty much the industry standard and used by a lot of marine people, but is fairly old, hard to use and is being slowly phased out. The VOF model is now in STAR-CD and STAR-CCM+ though and the other stuff (6dof etc) is being phased in so thats probably your best bet

see what the pro are using: http://www.reichel-pugh.com/racing/pyewacket.php http://www.boatdesign.net/Directory/...ow_Simulation/ http://www.reichel-pugh.com/racing/morningglory.php http://www.jutson.com/articles/shoct96.html

a specialized code is much cheaper than a general cfd code, you don;t need combustion, radiation, etc...

unless the main cfd code can propose you a cut-dow version, it is not economically interesting.
