How cell skew affects solution in structured vs unstructured grids
I performed a 2D lid-driven cavity simulation on a highly skewed grid with both an unstructured solver and a structured solver. In a streamline check, the structured solver computed distorted flow paths that seemed to align with the skewed cells, where the unstructured flow solver showed almost no such distortion.
My question is, can we have an expectation on how structured and unstructured flow solvers will respond to highly skewed cells?
First, my suggestion is to discriminate the numerical errors really produced by the high skewness from what appears (and you see) in graphics.
Therefore, check the quantitative accuracy analysis of your variables.
