spectral volumes
could some one tell me where to find enough information on the basics of spectral volume methods? is it an elusive topic for a beginner of cfd? i am about to choose my title for my undergraduate project also tell me if spectral volume methods have limits

Re: spectral volumes
Dear prapanj,
Its an advanced topic for a beginner of CFD.. to start with, its an advancement of Finite volume method, which differs from the conventional method in the reconstruction of polynomials (initial step) to solve the Hyperbloic conservation laws...(Euler equations, compressible flows)..u can find a lot of litereature and explanation in Dr. Wang's homepage...(Asst prof,Dept of Aerospace,Iowa state university) http://www.public.iastate.edu/~zjw/ i dont thk it ll be suitable to do as an undergraduate project..(my view..spl if u r a beginner).. iam also interested in spectral volume methods..it ll be a great help,if anyone can discuss abt its limitations.. thanks and with regards, Deepak Thirumurthy |
Re: spectral volumes
hi deepak its nice hearing from u. i understand that its difficult. but what appeals to me is its strong mathematical background. i felt that something which can circumvent conventions used in cfd can be of good help to me. and i myself feel its pompous to say it that way. but u guided me. thank u. and it seems spectral methods is gonna be catchy in future solutions. so would u recommend me to gain foundations in fv methods?

Re: spectral volumes
Dear prapanj,
Ya go ahead with the spectral FV method..its of course the novel field and ll get the top priority in another decade.. i ll give u some steps.. first,go with FVM..it ll help u to appreciate SFVM sec..introduce yourself to Godunov type of problems..conservative hyperbolic equations.. third...learn abt Riemann problem and its solution..both approx and exact.. spectral volume method is very close to discont Galerkin method(finite element method)..so it ll be very good if u hav some idea abt FEM.. thats all then its the time to enter to crack spectral volume..iam in second stage..going tho godunovs method... feel free to ask any doubt.. thanks and all the best..
