CFD Software to Model Curtain Walls for Buidlings

Hello, I am a mechanical engineer seeking suggested CFD software able to model airflow and equivalent thermal conductance of exterior curtain walls on commercial buildings. Curtain walls are comprised of double wall glass panels, aluminum extrusions and elastomeric seals.

Thanks very much for your assistance and time.

Best Regards,

Jim Belling Enclos Corp.

Mr Belling if you are looking for a commercial cfd code I can't help you. But the problem you are describing if you know the (a,k) of the walls its really easy. Even for me , and i'm only in my 4th year in Athens Polytechnic school.

Dear Mr. Kriacou, Thank you for your response. My simulation is very complex involving combinations of natural convection, forced convection, conduction and radiation. Hand calculations would be extremely involved.

Dear Mr. Jim i wasn't talking about hand calculations. I was talking about developing a code from zero that should take some time, but I still believe that the only really hart part is to develop the grid something you'll have to do anyway. Conduction and radiation are just going to involve in the energy equation us sources! About natural convection its really going to come out of the equations (and you don't really need to solve the compressible ones there are many tricks to emulate the weight difference). About forced convection you'll have a guess some kind of pips that you'll have to force a pressure difference! Regards, Stelios Kyriacou ,NTUA p.s. I hope I'm not consuming your time with out helping. After all I'm just un undergraduate Engineer. Thanks for taking the time to read my answer.

hai jim i saw your message and noticed that your involvement of work is also same like mine. I am also developing a equations for heat transfer and fluid flow analysis in combustion chamber of boiler. It will be helpful to me if u share your knowledge for developing these kind equation for convection condution and radiaton.

Hello Prabhu, We are still early in the development of of our modeling, but as of right now we will be using standard equations that are available in most heat transfer handbooks.
