IC Engine analysis

Hello! I hope I am posting this in the correct location. I would really thank a little bit of help, since I have been having some difficulties in this matter.

I intend to do a CFD analysis of an IC Engine for my masters thesis. I have two big doubts about the construction of the model:

1) I intend to create the model in CATIA, mesh it in Pointwise and analyze it in Fluent. Of my knowledge, Fluent can recognize a solid body as a fluid. Therefore, should i construct the model as a solid, or is there another way more recomendable?

2) My other question is the valves. Also, how should I introduce the valves in the body? Create a diferent part, or should i create it within the same body as the cylinder?

Thank you for your time!

Hi, i think you just need to export the surface model as an IGES and then import it into Pointwise. Well i would also construct the valves as surface features in CATIA within the same body as the cylinder.

Hope this helps.

Hi! Thank you for your answer! So you mean I should use the surface design and not the part design correct? I will give it a try and then give you some feedback! Thank you very much!

I forgot to ask something.. I am drawing just half of the cylinder. Do i need to put a surface on the symmetric face? Thank you for your time!
