CFD basics

Hello, i'm trying to understand CFD on basis of finite volume method. At the moment I have few questions.
1. To get temperature and velocity values over the model (fluid), I have to solve both Navier-Stokes (N-S) and Mass-energy (M-E) equations. N-S is needed to get velocity values, A M-E to get temperature values. Am I right or wrong? 2. If i'm right in 1, do those (N-S, M-E) equations are solved separately or together? Thanx for your help |

Dear Pawel,
I suppose by the NS you refer to the momentum equations and by ME to the continuity and energy equations. In FVM, the entire system of equations is a non-linear coupled system for compressible flows. The system gets decoupled in the case of incompressible flows, leaving no equation for pressure update, and hence a pressure correction scheme is introduced. Dear Ganesh,
If i am correct, even for incompressible flows, momentum and mass equations can't be solved 100% independently. Pressure correction scheme is used jointly with momentum and mass conservation equation to get parameters throughout the calculation domain. Regards, Sidd |
